Expert Review & Analysis

Honestly kinda random that this app has both Asian languages and chess in it, but I downloaded it to practice my N5 kanji. Teh character tracing screen is surprisingly strict though. I was trying to write 日 and it kept flagging me for stroke order even when I thought I had it right. The little bird character Leo is cute I guess, but it gets annoying when you just want to grind through your daily review and he keeps popping up.

The voice stuff for English isn't bad. I tapped the microphone icon to try the reading aloud part just to see how it works and its actually pretty quick at highlighting the exact sounds you mess up. But then I tried to play a quick chess game against one of the bots during my lunch break and the screen froze for a sec.

Offline mode works fine for the Japanese lessons when I'm on the subway, which is a plus. But forcing chess and stroke order into the same app feels a bit bloated. Decent if you want a bit of everything, but they really need to fix the lag on the mini games.
