Description

While kids are often time better off the internet, there are particular cases that just warrants the need thereof. While a parent can try to join in on every such case, it also means taking time out off their affairs. Also, a need for older kids may occur when not near a parent. Kid Browser therefore seeks to help Christian parents to 'safely' autopilot these need-cases, especially when running supervised accounts (e.g., through platforms like Google Family Link) where an extra layer of real-time, custom content control is desired.

NB: Now with a remote monitoring parent client available here (Monthly/Yearly subscription based): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.za.likeChrist.parentapp

Major features
=> No incognito
=> Ads blocking toggle
=> Image blocking toggle
=> Videos and audio blocking toggle
=> Password protection (for browser settings)
=> Search keywords blocking (if list not empty)
=> Domain whitelisting
=> Domain blocking (ignored if the whitelist is not empty)
=> Local browser activity/history tracking (delete disabled - only parent can delete)
=> Uninstall or data clearing tracker/detector - protect it using supervisor app if you can
=> Replace blocked words with "---" should any appear on any whitelisted domain's webpage, functioning as a persistent, real-time content filter essential for enhancing existing device management tools.

=> An optional but recommended kids friendly KB search engine (it uses paid credits though - more on it below)

Planned features
=> AI powered analysis for history logs that then only send alerts to parents for serious looking keywords or phrases. Ideally on our KB Monitor parent client.

Tips:
* Keep your password safe. You need to clear data and loose all trackings should you forget it
* Delete history after reviewing it so that logging will resume on a new slate
* I strongly recommende you use this in conjunction with apps such as family link so you can protect it from unistall etc. Else, to clearly and sternly warn against tempering with uninstalling or clearing app data, as you should be able to see (with the help of ther date stamp) and take necessary punishment actions. Yes, this is only necessary if the Android Settings app cannot be thus access controlled.
* Please note that the selected search engine domain is always whitelisted

Recommendations
* It's recommended but not mandatory to set the KB Search (under search engines) for your child's search engine for safer search querying experience. While so, other search engines' domains are blocked.

KB Search engine
This is the studio's best effort thus far in trying to provide a search engine that seeks to find harmony between high quality search results and Christian kids friendliness. This highly configuration engine is outsourced from Google who charges $5 per 1000 queries unless they are allowed to show mandatory ads. Query credits can be purchased through Kid Browser's IAP store at around half a dollar per 50 credits. Please do note that this applies only to keywords search. Web URLs (such as bible.com, etc.) do not require credits. The KB Search as such comes with Safe Search enabled (and cannot be disabled from a user's end). But of course, we do not think this is enough on its own and thus the additional helper features (history track, word block, etc).

Kid Browser is developed by a Christian founded studio that seeks to meet the strictest Christian standards in its service offers.

Expert Review & Analysis

This "Kid Browser" app aims to provide a safer browsing experience for children, particularly within a Christian framework. It's designed to be used in conjunction with broader parental control tools like Google Family Link, offering an extra layer of content filtering and monitoring tailored to specific Christian values. Essentially, it's a web browser with built-in restrictions and monitoring capabilities managed by the parent.

The key features focus on restricting access to potentially harmful content. The app blocks incognito mode, preventing kids from bypassing restrictions. It offers toggles for blocking ads, images, and videos, giving parents granular control over what their children can see. Password protection for settings prevents tampering by children. Keyword blocking allows parents to specify terms that should be blocked from search queries. Domain whitelisting and blacklisting provide control over which websites can be accessed. A notable feature is the ability to replace blocked words with "---" even on whitelisted sites, offering real-time content filtering. The app also tracks browsing history, preventing children from deleting it. Finally, it monitors for attempts to uninstall the app or clear its data. An optional, paid "KB Search" engine is included, claiming to provide Christian-friendly search results.

This app would be most useful in situations where parents want more control over their child's browsing experience than standard parental control apps offer. It's particularly relevant for families who want to filter content based on Christian values. It could be beneficial for older children who need internet access for schoolwork or communication but require supervision. The real-time content filtering is a unique selling point, especially for parents concerned about encountering inappropriate language even on trusted websites.

The target audience is Christian parents concerned about online safety and content appropriateness for their children. The app is likely most suitable for parents already using parental control tools like Google Family Link who desire more fine-grained control and monitoring. The subscription-based remote monitoring parent app suggests a focus on parents who want to actively oversee their child's online activity.

Overall, "Kid Browser" attempts to provide a comprehensive solution for Christian parents seeking to create a safer online environment for their children. The feature set is robust, offering various methods for content restriction and monitoring. However, the reliance on a paid search engine and the effectiveness of the real-time content filtering would need to be thoroughly tested. The app's success hinges on its ease of use for parents and its ability to effectively block inappropriate content without hindering legitimate browsing activities. The 0/5 rating, while potentially inaccurate (as it may be based on limited reviews or early versions), is a significant red flag that warrants careful investigation before downloading.
