Permissions:
• This app uses Accessibility services to build an excellent device experience that helps:
- users with behavioural disabilities set appropriate levels of access and monitoring of screen time, web content and apps, in order to limit their risks and enjoy life normally.
Be assured that the monitoring is private and no 3rd parties will be aware of it.
• Draw Over Other Apps: This app uses this permission to draw block screen on top of apps you choose to block.
• Usage Access: This app uses this permission to detect which application is opened so we have a suit filtration in it.
• This app uses the Device Administrator permission (BIND_DEVICE_ADMIN) in order to allow parents to enable uninstall protection and prevent their children from uninstalling the app without their knowledge and consent.
Please note that this is an optional functionality as per user requirement. We do not enable this feature by default.
• When you use our app, VPNservice will be used so that relevant content you try to access will first securely pass through the filters in our remote servers. We can then determine whether or not the content is inappropriate and should be blocked.

Please also note that in some cases, we might ask you to install third party applications.
You will always be able to uninstall the application: on the app's home page - click on "Uninstall application", submit your password (if required) - and the application will be removed.

Expert Review & Analysis

When I check the app description for Netsmart, a parenting app focused on content filtering, several points immediately stand out, both positive and potentially concerning.

What the App Does: Netsmart aims to provide comprehensive content filtering for smartphones and tablets, even in the absence of an internet connection. It claims to filter video, image, and text content, including that stored locally or from external sources like USB drives. The core purpose is to protect children from inappropriate content and manage their screen time.

Key Features: The description highlights several compelling features. Real-time sexting deterrence and partial clothing filtering are ambitious, suggesting advanced image recognition capabilities. Automatic blocking of inappropriate content, removal prevention (requiring parental permission to uninstall), and pre-defined filters by category offer robust protection. Parental alerts for new installations, blocked content, and uninstall attempts provide valuable oversight. Screen time limits, custom exceptions for approved apps and websites, and remote management capabilities further enhance parental control. The availability of interfaces in English and Hebrew is a plus.

Use Cases: Netsmart would be most useful for parents concerned about their children accessing inappropriate content online or offline. It could be particularly helpful for families with younger children or teenagers who are new to using smartphones and tablets. The offline filtering capability is a significant advantage for situations where internet access is limited or unreliable. It also seems beneficial for parents who wish to actively manage their children's screen time and online activities.

Target Audience: The target audience is clearly parents of children and teenagers who own smartphones or tablets. The app seems geared towards parents who want a comprehensive and actively managed approach to their children's online safety. The remote management features make it suitable for parents who want to monitor their children's devices from their own device or online.

Overall Assessment: While the described features are impressive and address legitimate parental concerns, the app's 0/5 rating on the Google Play Store is extremely worrying. This discrepancy between the advertised features and user experience raises significant red flags. Such a low rating often indicates serious problems with the app's functionality, reliability, or even security.

The app description also mentions several permissions, including Accessibility services, drawing over other apps, usage access, Device Administrator permission, and VPN service usage. While these permissions are necessary for the app to function as described, they also raise privacy and security concerns. Parents should carefully consider the implications of granting these permissions and ensure that the app's privacy policy is trustworthy. The requested installation of third-party applications is another aspect that requires caution and careful evaluation of those applications' legitimacy and security.

Before considering this app, parents should thoroughly investigate the reasons behind the extremely low rating. Reading user reviews and seeking independent evaluations are essential to determine whether the app actually delivers on its promises and whether it poses any risks to privacy or security. It is highly recommended to proceed with extreme caution until the issues causing the low rating are resolved and verified by trusted sources.
